There are lots of bed bugs spray products on the market, but be warned that bed bug sprays containing low doses
of pyrethroid insecticide probably will not work. In fact, bed bugs in different areas have different levels of
resistance to chemicals. For instance, bed bugs in New York are 264 times more resistant to deltamethrin than bed
bugs in Florida. So, select your bed bugs spray very carefully.

This increase is pretty widespread in the UK, northern Europe and the United States. There are two reasons that
have been suggested for this resurgence: increased international, long-haul travel and increased immigration from
Africa and Asia.
It is important to realize that having bed bugs does not indicate a dirty place. Bed bugs do not prefer dirt,
because they do not revel in it. They do not eat spilled food, they eat blood. If anything, bed bugs thrive in
buildings that are a little run down. They need hiding places, such as loose skirting boards, damaged plaster and
torn wall paper. They also like to live in ripped mattresses.
However, bed bugs are not easy to kill with a bed bugs spray anymore, firstly because bedbugs have become
resistant to pesticides and secondly because bedbugs have a waxy top coat which prevents them from dehydrating,
especially during periods of dormancy, when there is no fresh blood about. This waxy coat also has the effect of
stopping contact insecticides from having their full effect.
There are three types of bed bugs spray.
The first bed bugs spray is the contact spray, which should act like fly spray. However, that waxy coat often
renders contact pesticides rather ineffective.
The second type of bed bugs spray is a mixture of powdered glass or powdered silica mixed with a pesticide. The
theory is that the glass or silica will stick to the waxy coat and, over time, as the insect wriggles into cracks
and crevices, it will abrade the waxy coat and then the pesticide will get to the insect properly.
This method does work, but it can take a while, possibly up to a week for the active bedbugs, but then others
will become active or hatch out. Therefore, it could take a month or more for this method to eradicate bedbugs.
The third type of bed bugs spray involves insect hormone growth inhibitor. This type of spray will kill the
nymphs (the young), but that leaves the adults to die of old age and breed again. If the insect hormone growth
inhibitor continues to work, the young will not develop, but the adults may last a year, before they die.
The most successful type of bed bugs spray available is steam and this is the professional's preferred method of
killing bedbugs because no form of bed bug can survive temperatures above 45c.
